The Field : It’s the World, Not the Church

One time Jesus told the crowds:

“The Kingdom of Heaven is like a landowner who sowed good wheat seeds in his field. But while everyone was asleep one night, an enemy came and scattered poisonous seeds among the good seeds. When the good plants sprouted and started to make wheat, the poisonous weeds also grew up. When the workers saw all the poisonous weeds, they asked the landowner, ‘Sir, didn’t you plant good seed in the field? How did all these poisonous weeds get here?’

“The landowner answered, ‘An enemy did this.’

“Then the workers asked, ‘What should we do then? Do you want us to go and rip up all the poisonous weeds?’

“But the owner said, ‘No, if you try to rip up the weeds now you might accidentally rip up some of the good wheat at the same time. Let both grow together until the harvest. When the good grain is ripe, I’ll tell the harvesters, “First collect all the poisonous weeds and tie them in bundles and burn them. Then you can gather all the good wheat into my barn.”’”

Later when Jesus had gone into the house, the disciples came close to Him and asked, “Could You explain to us what You meant about the poisonous weeds in the field?”

So Jesus explained, “The landowner who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man, Me. The field is the world. The good seeds are the people of God’s Kingdom. The poisonous weeds are the people who belong to the evil one, and the enemy who sowed the bad seeds is the devil. The harvest is the end of time, and the harvesters are angels. Just like the poisonous weeds are collected and burned at the harvest, that’s how it will be at the end of time. I will send My angels to get rid of everything that causes sin and all the lawbreakers. They will be thrown in a place of forever crying. Then, the righteous, the Shining Survivors, will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father!”

Some people use what Jesus said here to say that it’s okay that God’s People, His House, aren’t Holy. They say, “It’s okay if evil people and righteous people mix together in God’s House, the Church. Pretending, hypocrisy, lukewarmness and sin in the Church — it’s okay. God will take care of those things later.” Nooooo! That is not what Jesus said. Jesus said the field is the world, not the Church.

This idea that the “field is the Church”… it doesn’t take much of reading your Bible to know that not only is that not what Jesus said, but that doesn’t line up with what we saw in God’s relationship with His shadow house and people either. God always cared about righteousness and justice in His Family, didn’t He?

God’s Family wasn’t punished for what the other nations did. But evil stuff that happened inside His Nation… uhhh, yeah! Remember what happened with Achan? Inside of God’s Household, they had to stand up for Justice and Righteousness… or trouble, trouble, trouble happened.

And as you know, God’s Big Plan is for a Bride for His Son, a House, an expression of Himself on this earth for all to see. His Bride won’t be all mixed up — part sinful and part good. Nooooo! HIS HOUSE, HIS Bride, His Church is to be Set Apart as Holy. Anything else would be, well, not really expressing Him. His Church will be LIKE Him, Holy.
