Rebekah : The Pretty-Hearted Lady

God wanted Abraham to find a special lady to be a wife for his special son, Isaac. So Abraham’s servant loaded up 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 camels for his trip, and he headed off to a far, far, far away town. “Who will the special lady be?” the servant wondered.

Soon, the servant stopped for a rest with the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 camels. They were all very thirsty, so they waited by the town’s well.

The servant asked God, “Many ladies are coming to the well. Will You help me find just the right lady for Isaac? A lady who is kind and serves others? I have an idea! I will ask for a drink and if a lady offers to give both me and my 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 camels a drink, then I will know that she is a kind lady that You have chosen.”

Right at that exact moment, a lady came up to the well to fill her water jar. Abraham’s servant asked her, “Can I have a little sip of your water?”

The lady didn’t hesitate, “Here’s a drink, Sir.” Then she looked at aaalllll those thirsty camels and she offered, “I’ll get water for your camels, too!”

Abraham’s servant excitedly watched to make sure this was just the right lady. She ran back and forth, back and forth, back and forth from the well until ALL the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 camels all had enough water (and camels drink a lot)!

She never fussed about the hot sun or her hurting feet or the very heavy water jugs! And it was hard work!

Finally, the servant asked the girl, “What is your name?”

“My name is Rebekah,” she said.

The servant thanked God for helping him because he knew that Rebekah must be the special lady to be a wife for Isaac!

The servant told Rebekah and her family how God had helped him to find her. Then he asked Rebekah if she would come with him right away to be Isaac’s wife.

Well, Rebekah’s family wanted her to stay with them for just 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 more days. But, Rebekah said, “Nope. God has done this, so I will come right away.” So she got on 1 of the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 camels and traveled far, far, far to the land where Isaac lived.

When they were almost there, they saw a man in a field coming towards them. Rebekah hopped off her camel and she asked the servant, “Who is that man coming?”

“That’s Isaac,” the servant said. And once again, Rebekah didn’t hesitate. She grabbed her veil and she covered her face.

Back then, covering your face was a way of showing humility, showing that you didn’t think you were “big stuff.”

Rebekah didn’t need or want Isaac to think about her and how she looked (though the Bible says she was very pretty). She just needed Isaac to hear from the servant what God had done and be amazed at GOD, not at her.

And Isaac was very happy to have Rebekah to be his wife, because he saw that Rebekah’s heart was very PRETTY — because when it was time to serve and love others and obey God, she didn’t hesitate! And THAT is what made her God’s pretty-hearted lady.
