Peter and Andrew were brothers. They were fishermen. All night long they would work in their boat catching fish. And all morning long they would sell their fish to make money.
Fishing was hard work. Throw the net into the water. Puuull the net out of the water. Throw the net in. Puuull the net out. In, out. In, out. All night long.
One morning, after a long night of throwing in, pulling out, throwing in, pulling out… Peter and Andrew were standing in their boat throwing their nets in the water just one last time to catch a few extra fish. It was almost time for them to sell their fish to make money.
But just then, Jesus came. Step, step, step down the beach toward Peter’s boat. Jesus called to Peter and Andrew, “Come, follow Me!”
And just like that — SPLASH! Peter dropped his net. Sink, sink, sink went his net of fish to the bottom of the lake.
SPLASH! Andrew dropped his net too. Sink, sink, sink went his net of fish to the bottom of the lake.
But Peter and Andrew didn’t even notice all their fish sink, sink, sinking because they were looking at Jesus.
They didn’t ask WHAT they were going to do or WHEN they might be back or WHERE they were going. The only thing that mattered was WHO they were going to be with — JESUS.
Peter and Andrew left all those fish in their boat, and they never got any money from all that throwing in and pulling out all night long. But do you think they cared? No! Peter and Andrew were so happy because they got to follow Jesus!
When Jesus said “come,” Peter and Andrew dropped everything they were doing and came right away with so-happy hearts.
Then Jesus told them, “Don’t worry about your fish. I’m going to teach you how to catch people instead of fish.”
Jesus knew about everything that Peter and Andrew were leaving behind when they followed Him. And that made Him smile a big smile when He saw Peter and Andrew drop everything and come to Him so FAST!
