Mary, Elizabeth & John : God’s Spirit Gets Excited

As soon as that angel talked to Mary, off Mary took to go see her cousin Elizabeth. The angel had told Mary that too-old Elizabeth was going to have a baby, too!

Mary dashed into Zechariah’s house and said, “Hi, Elizabeth!”

The baby inside Elizabeth’s tummy jumped for joy and started doing flips! And the Holy Spirit caused Elizabeth to burst out in a loud voice, “Mary, you are blessed among all women! And blessed is the child in your tummy! Who am I that the mother of my Lord should come and visit me? I am just little stuff! The very second the sound of your ‘Hi!’ reached my ears, the baby in my tummy jumped, jumped, jumped for joy. Blessed is the lady who believes that what God said to her will come true.”

No sooner had Elizabeth finished talking, then Mary burst out singing! (But I don’t know how the song goes, so I’ll just say it.)

“My soul glorifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God, my Savior. He has seen me — His humble servant! From now on, all people everywhere will call me blessed, because He who is mighty has done great things for me, and His name is Holy, Other, Different! For those who fear Him and His Justice, His mercy is free, free, free. He has shown His power; He has scattered people with proud hearts. He has brought the mighty down, down, down from their thrones, He has lifted up, up, up the humble people. He has filled the hungry with good things, He has sent the rich away empty. He has helped His Family, remembering His mercy, as He promised to Abraham and to Abraham’s children forever.”

It was as if as soon as baby Jesus came into the room (inside Mary’s tummy), the Holy Spirit just bubbled over with happiness and excitement!

God’s Holy Spirit was on these people, and of course the Holy Spirit would be very happy, jubilant, excited and jumping for joy at the entrance of God made into a man — a baby — Jesus! So when baby Jesus came into the room… the Holy Spirit jumped, jumped, jumped for joy!
