Isaiah Sees : A Baby Tree and a Changed World

Have you noticed that since the very beginning of this Big Story, the message that God was singing or shouting or whispering to His People was often the same? Do Good, and Good things come your way. Do bad, and you’ll be punished because God’s trying to get you back on the right track.

All the Heaven Seers tried to teach God’s Family about God’s Blessings for obedience and devotion to Him and the curses for disobedience and wandering away from Him.

But, for those who are listening carefully, during this time of Isaiah and those after him, God started to show a little sneak peak into a part of His Story that had been mostly kept secret until now. Jesus.

But now that God had decided to scatter His disobedient shadow-family, Israel, He wanted to give them Hope, too. So He started giving them a little sneak peak about a Champion, a Shepherd, a King who would come to rescue them.

Isaiah warned them that other nations would come to punish, scatter, and destroy their nation, and they’ll end up a chopped-off, burned-up, dead stump. (Timber!)

But then he went on to tell them that the dead stump would be hiding a special secret — a Holy seed that is different, different, different from anything before. So the chop, chop, chopping wasn’t the end of the story! He went on to tell us more about this Holy seed, this person, that is other, other, other.

God said, “Out of the old, dead stump, a fresh, alive baby tree will sprout up! This person won’t judge by what He sees with His eyes, or make decisions by what He hears with His ears; but He will make decisions with righteousness and justice.

“The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him — the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, of guiding and of strength, of the knowledge and fear of the Lord.”

And everything is going to change.

“The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the baby animals together; and a little child will lead them. The cow will eat with the bear; their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. Children will play near snakes.

“None of these will harm or destroy on all God’s Holy mountain. The earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord like the waters cover the sea.”

Think about it…

This is one of those puzzle pieces that has not fully happened yet, huh? The earth we live in still has lions that eat meat, wolves that eat lambs, leopards that are not friends with goats, and children should not play near poisonous snakes.

But, one day, something’s gonna change. There will be a place where things will be different from how they currently are. No more disagreements and fighting among God’s creations. That sounds wonderful, doesn’t it?

“In that day the Root of Jesse will grow tall and stand as a flag for the nations to see. The nations will come together to Him and look to Him for direction. And His quiet home, His resting place, will be glorious.

“He will lift up high a giant flag for the nations and gather together those sent away and scattered far from God’s Land.

“His Kingdom won’t be split in pieces anymore. They’ll be one Family with no jealousy between them. They’ll work together.

“The Lord will reach out His hand to get back His Shining Survivors, making sure everyone knows they are His.”

Did you know?

You’re going to hear us mention these shining survivors a lot. They are the people who hang in there when things get really tough. They are the people who wait on God. They stay loyal. Even though disciplined or hurting, they’re always looking for a way back to God’s land and to His Promises. They’re overcomers!

And He told them, “When this happens, you’re going to sing, sing, sing. And here’s what you’ll sing: ‘Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord Himself, is my strength and my protection; He has become my salvation.

‘Give praise to the Lord, shout His name; tell everyone among the nations what He has done.’ Sing to the Lord, for He has done glorious things; let the whole world know. Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion, for great is the Holy One among you.”
