Then John saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and earth had gone away, and the sea existed no more.
And he saw the Holy City — the new Jerusalem — coming down out of heaven from God. Like a bride all dressed up and made ready for her husband.
He heard a loud voice from the throne saying: “Look! God’s home is with people! God Lives with them!
“He’ll live among them… and they will be His people… and God Himself will be with them.
“He will wipe away every tear, and death will not exist any more — and no sadness, or crying, or pain — for the past things won’t exist anymore.”
And the One seated on the throne said: “I am making all things new! Write this down, John, because these words are trustworthy and true.
“It has happened. It is done! I’m the A and the Z, the beginning and the end. To the one who is thirsty I will give water free of charge from the spring of the water of Life. The one who overcomes will get these things.”
Then one of the seven angels said, “Come here, John. I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb!”
So he took John away in the Spirit to a huge, majestic mountain and showed him the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven.
The city possesses the glory of God; its brilliance is like a precious jewel, like a stone of crystal, clear jasper.
It has a massive, high wall with 12 gates, with 12 angels at the gates, and the names of the 12 tribes of the nation of Israel are written on the gates.
There are three gates on each side. The wall of the city has 12 foundations, and on them are the 12 names of the 12 apostles of the Lamb.
The angel who spoke to John had a golden measuring rod to measure the city, and its foundation stones and wall.
The city’s wall is made of jasper and the city is pure gold, like transparent glass.
The foundations of the city’s wall are decorated with every kind of precious stone. And the 12 foundations are of beautiful gemstone like jasper, sapphire, agate, and emerald…
And the 12 gates are 12 pearls — each one of the gates is made from just one pearl! The main street of the city is pure gold.
One thing John didn’t see in the city was a temple. Do you wanna know why? Because the Lord God Almighty and Jesus the Lamb are its temple.
And the city doesn’t need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because the glory of God lights it up, and the Lamb is its lamp.
The nations will walk by its light and the kings of the earth will bring their grandeur into it. Its gates will never be closed during the day, and there’ll be no night there! Nothing unclean and no one who is yucky will ever get in. The only people getting in are those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
Then the angel showed John the river of Life, as clear as crystal, flowing from God’s throne down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of Life, with 12 crops of fruit, with new ripe fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are used for the healing of the nations.
No longer will there be any curse.
The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and His servants will serve Him.
They will see His face. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And together they will reign for ever and ever.
