Adam : Loses a Rib

God, the Father and His Son, Jesus, together made the world. His Spirit, God’s Spirit, moved over the waters.

From the dirt, God formed every wild animal and every bird in the sky. And He brought them to Adam so that he could name them. God made Adam to be the boss over the animals, so whatever Adam called each living thing, that became its name.

Can you imagine naming all the animals!? From the little bitty squeaky mouse and the soaring bird, and the roaring tiger! What a huge job! Being the first man was a big responsibility.

But Adam patiently gave names to all the animals, wild and tame, and all the birds in the sky.

But while Adam was doing all that naming, he noticed that all the animals had a helper, a partner, all except him. Out of all the creatures on the earth, Adam could not find a helper who was right for him.

God said, “It’s not good for man to be alone. I will make for man a companion, a helper.”

Think about it…

Did you hear that? A Perfect God created man in His very own likeness, and this Perfect God just said, “It’s not good for man to be alone…” Wow! What a deep and wonderful mystery! Something about God’s nature, His likeness, loves relationships! So, keep listening for the mysteries… and Explore for yourself! Ask Him about these things.

So God caused the man, Adam, to fall into a deep sleep. While he was asleep, God opened up the man’s skin and took out one of the man’s ribs! After God closed back up the man’s skin, He used the man’s rib to make a woman, and then he brought the woman to the man.

“Here she is, Adam! A gift just for you! What do you think?!”

“Now, THIS is a partner who is just right for me,” Adam answered. “Her bones came from my bones, her body came from my body! So, I will name her ‘woman,’ because she was taken out of man — out of me!” (Later on, Adam would call his wife “Eve.”)

So the woman was the helper that God gave to man.

After this, God said that when a man and woman decide to get married, they won’t be two people anymore. They will become ONE — a new thing. They may still LOOK like two people to your earth eyes, but in God’s eyes, in Heaven’s Eyes, they are ONE.

And don’t forget about God’s Big Plan. God wanted a companion, too! He wanted a partner, a wife, a Bride for His Son. God was after something, something Good for Him and something Good for us.
